NYU Swimming Opens 2020 with Victories Over Wagner College and United States Merchant Marine Academy on Senior Day in NYC…..!

NEW YORK,NY(SMI-COLLEGE SPORTS,01.11.20)-The NYU women & Men's swimming teams (Swim & Diving) earned its first victory of 2020- after

the women's violet defeated top ranked NEC Wagner College 207-93 and the men with the same score (207-93) against United States Merchant Marine Academy on NYU annual Senior Day celebration at the Palladium Athletic Facility in Manhattan.

 

NYU swimming that is currently ranked among the Top-10 programs in the nation by the CSCAA and under the direction coach Trevor Miele, honored six seniors swimmers today for their contributions to the NYU swimming program for the last four years.


In the women's competition  Sydney Catron, Honore Collins, Erica Yuen, and Jessica Flyn won the 400-yard medley relay for the violets in a time of 3:55.85.

Rachel Reistroffer claimed victory in the 1,000-yard freestyle in a time of 10:36.40, while Ashley Brodnick placed second (10:37.75). 

Collins also won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:06.95) and the 100-yard freestyle (52.90) races. Catron took home first place in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 58.99

Mari Yasumi was yet another victorious Violet, winning the 200-yard freestyle (1:55.19) and the 200-yard IM (2:10.73).

 

The senior women swimmers who were honored at the meet were the following:

Carmen White: Majoring in Chemistry (Lake Bluff, IL/Lake Forest) and who won both the three-meter (274 pts) and one-meter (285.90) in today's diving competition.

Honore Collins: Majoring in Business (Evanston, IL)


Hannah Bub: Majoring in English (The Woodlands, TX/The Woodlands Christian Academy).

Becky Flaherty: Majoring Global Public Health Sociology (Carmel, IN/Carmel).

Jaime Robinson: Majoring in Nursing (Cheshire, CT/Sacred Heart Academy.

In the men's competition William Looney, Elan Oumarov, Giorgio Delgrosso, and John Piccinic won the 400-yard medley relay for the Violets in a time of 3:22.11.

Looney also took home the top spot in the 100-yard backstroke (51.15) and the 200-yard breaststroke (1:52.33) events.

DelGrosso placed first in the 100- (55.84) and 200-yard (2:04.2) breaststroke events, while also capturing the 200-yard IM with a time of 1:57.12.

Piccinic earned a victory in the 50-yard freestyle with a mark of 21.37. Thomas Pritchard posted wins in the 1,000-yard (9:42.84) and 500-yard (4:40.16) freestyle races.

The men swimmers who were honored at the meet were the following:

 

Giorgio DelGrosso:Majoring in Individualized Studies(Michigan)

 

Matthew Liang: Majoring in Economics & Mathematics (Palo Alto, CA)

With the victory today, NYU's men and women swimmg teams improved their overall record to 2-1 in the season.
